Multiple Positions Available – Crew Members, Plant Operators & Supervisor

Tanners Bitumen & Asphalt is a locally owned and operated road, linemarking and civil construction company servicing Yeppoon, Rockhampton and the wider Central Queensland region.

Due to continued growth and an expanding workload, we are seeking multiple motivated and reliable team members to join our asphalt and bitumen crews.

Positions are available for multi-skilled Crew Members / Plant Operators, as well as an experienced Supervisor.

We deliver high-quality asphalt, bitumen, spray sealing, civil construction and linemarking projects, with a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity and teamwork.

Crew Members / Plant Operators 🚧

These are multi-skilled, hands-on positions where employees will be expected to undertake a range of duties across asphalt, bitumen, spray sealing, civil construction and linemarking projects.

Plant operation will form an important part of the role; however, all crew members are expected to contribute to the wider team and assist with labouring, preparation, finishing and clean-up as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with asphalt laying, raking, handwork and finishing

• Assist with bitumen spray sealing, aggregate spreading and pavement works

• Operate mobile plant including rollers, skid steers (Bobcats), asphalt pavers and other equipment as required

• Carry out general labouring and manual tasks associated with asphalt, bitumen, civil construction and linemarking projects

• Assist with site preparation and site clean-up

• Load, unload and move materials and equipment

• Drive company vehicles and trucks where appropriately licensed

• Carry out daily plant and equipment checks

• Maintain a safe, clean and productive worksite

We are particularly interested in multi-skilled operators who are comfortable jumping between plant operation and hands-on crew work.

Experience operating plant is highly regarded, however applicants must also be willing to get involved with the physical aspects of the work and contribute as part of a team.

Supervisor

We are also seeking an experienced Supervisor to lead our crews and oversee the successful delivery of asphalt, bitumen and civil construction works.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate asphalt, bitumen and civil construction crews

• Manage daily site activities, productivity and crew requirements

• Coordinate plant, materials and labour to maintain project schedules

• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard

• Operate plant and assist with hands-on works when required

• Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors and management

• Complete relevant site documentation and assist with project reporting

• Identify and address issues on site to keep works progressing

• Lead by example and maintain a strong safety, production and quality culture

For the Supervisor Position

The successful Supervisor will ideally have:

• Previous experience supervising asphalt, bitumen, civil or road construction crews

• Strong communication and organisational skills

• The ability to manage crews, plant and materials effectively

• A strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements

• The ability to work independently, solve problems and make decisions on site

• A hands-on approach and willingness to assist the crew

• Provide training and mentoring to the crew

Highly Regarded – But Not Essential ⭐

• Experience in asphalt, bitumen or spray sealing

• Civil construction or linemarking experience

• MR, HR or HC truck licence

• Experience operating rollers, skid steers, excavators or asphalt pavers

• Previous leading hand or supervisory experience

• Construction White Card

• Traffic Control qualifications
