Steel Detailer / Tekla Draftsman

We are looking for an experienced Steel Detailer / Tekla Draftsman to join our team. The successful candidate will have strong experience in structural steel detailing using Tekla Structures and be confident working on commercial and industrial building projects from initial modelling through to fabrication and construction documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop accurate and detailed 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures.

• Prepare detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, GA drawings and erection drawings.

• Detail structural steel members, connections, bracing, purlins, girts, stairs, platforms and associated steelwork.

• Interpret and coordinate structural engineering drawings, architectural drawings and other project documentation.

• Coordinate steelwork with engineers, architects, builders and other trades.

• Identify design and coordination issues and raise RFIs where required.

• Ensure drawings and models comply with project specifications, engineering requirements and relevant Australian Standards.

• Review models and drawings for accuracy, constructability and fabrication requirements.

• Liaise with fabricators and project teams to resolve detailing and fabrication issues.

• Make revisions to models and drawings based on engineering, architectural and site requirements.

• Maintain a high standard of accuracy and quality throughout the detailing process.

• Manage multiple projects and meet agreed project deadlines.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience in structural steel detailing.

• Strong and proven experience using Tekla Structures.

• Experience working on commercial and industrial projects, particularly warehouses, factories, sheds and other large-scale steel structures.

• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and construction.

• Ability to read and interpret structural engineering and architectural drawings.

• Good understanding of steel connections, fabrication requirements and erection methodology.

• Experience preparing professional shop drawings and fabrication documentation.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies between drawings and models.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Good communication and problem-solving skills.

• Experience working with Australian projects and Australian Standards is highly desirable.

• Trimble Connect

• AutoCAD

• Revit / IFC coordination

• Structural steel fabrication processes

• Commercial and industrial warehouse projects

• Working directly with structural engineers and steel fabricators
