Parkerville Steiner College is seeking a practical and capable all-rounder to support the care and ongoing development of our school grounds and facilities.
This is a permanent part-time position of up to 15 hours per week, with some flexibility in how the hours are arranged to suit the needs of the school and the successful applicant.
The role would suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in creating well-cared-for spaces and is willing to turn their hand to a range of gardening, maintenance and improvement projects. We are looking for someone who can work independently, use initiative and contribute positively to our small, connected school community.
The Facilities and Grounds Support Officer reports to the Head of School and works under the direction of the Facilities, Grounds and Maintenance Lead.
The role includes:
maintaining and improving the school’s gardens, grounds and outdoor spaces
operating and maintaining hand tools, power tools and equipment, including chainsaws, blowers and brush cutters
maintaining reticulation systems
assisting with bushfire preparedness and fuel-reduction work
undertaking general repairs, maintenance and any general projects under the guidance of the Facilities, Grounds and Maintenance Lead
supporting clean-ups, Busy Bees and school improvement projects
working safely and in accordance with work health and safety requirements.
The successful applicant will:
hold a current manual C-class driver’s licence
hold a current Working with Children Check, or be willing and eligible to obtain one
be an Australian resident or hold a valid visa with working rights in Australia
be practical, reliable and able to work independently
show initiative and take responsibility for completing tasks and projects
work respectfully and positively around students and staff
have experience using hand tools, power tools and grounds-maintenance equipment
have experience or be willing to learn reticulation systems, bushfire preparedness and fuel-reduction practices.
Knowledge of Australian native plants and an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, permaculture or organic gardening practices would be highly regarded, but not necessary.
Remuneration will be in accordance with the applicable award and will reflect the successful applicant’s skills and experience.
