Expression of Interest – Race Day Positions
Looking for flexible casual work?
Tasracing is looking for reliable and detail-focused people to join our race day team as casual Photo Finish Operators and Judges.
These are great opportunities for someone looking to earn some extra money outside their regular 9–5, including students, retirees or people looking for flexible evening and weekend work.
No previous racing experience is required; we’ll provide the training you need to get you started.
About Tasracing
At Tasracing, racing is our passion. As Tasmania's Principal Racing Authority, we are responsible for the development and promotion of the state's racing industry.
We oversee the growth of racing and breeding, market Tasmanian racing locally, nationally and internationally, fund race clubs, provide stakes and prize money, manage racing venues and support the smooth operation of race day activities.
Our work is driven by a commitment to growing and sustaining the racing industry, with a strong focus on animal welfare, integrity and delivering fair outcomes.
With more than 150 years of history and a team of over 250 employees, we're proud to play a key role in building a united and vibrant racing industry Tasmania can be proud of.
The Opportunities
We are seeking expressions of interest from people interested in working casually at race meetings and trials across Tasmania in the following positions:
Photo Finish Operator
As a Photo Finish Operator, you will operate and manage the photo finish and timing systems used at race meetings. You'll play an important role in ensuring race results are captured accurately and efficiently, while supporting Stewards and other racing officials.
Judge
As a Judge, you will be responsible for determining and recording the official placings of horses at the completion of each race and ensuring results are recorded and communicated accurately and promptly.
These roles are an important part of maintaining the accuracy, fairness and integrity of racing outcomes.
Where and when?
Casual shifts available at Hobart, Longford, Launceston and Devonport
Work is primarily across evenings and weekends
Race meetings and trials are scheduled throughout the racing season
Flexible opportunities to work around your existing commitments
No previous racing experience required – training will be provided
This could be a great opportunity if you're a retiree, student, semi-retired, shift worker or simply looking to earn some extra money outside your usual working hours.
About You
We're looking for people who are:
Reliable, punctual and hardworking
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Highly attentive to detail
Able to remain focused in a fast-paced environment
Confident communicating with others
Able to work evening and weekend shifts
Have good eyesight and strong visual attention to detail
Hold a current driver's licence
You don't need to be an experienced racing person. What's most important is that you're reliable, focused and willing to learn.
What We Offer
When you join our race day team, you'll receive:
Casual employment with flexible opportunities
Training and support to learn the role
Travel allowance, where applicable
Uniform and PPE provided
The opportunity to be part of Tasmania's racing industry
How to Express Your Interest
If you're interested in joining Tasracing as a Photo Finish Operator or Judge, we'd love to hear from you.
Please submit your application through SEEK outlining your relevant experience and why you're interested in the opportunity.
