Senior Chaplaincy

About the role:

Victoria Police Chaplaincy offers a service of pastoral and spiritual care, relationship and bereavement support, subject matter expertise, education, and advocacy through a small staff team overseeing a diverse multi-faith cohort of local volunteer chaplains across the state. Chaplaincy operates as an integral part of a holistic suite of professional services offered through Health, Safety and Wellbeing and sits within Wellbeing Services. As our organisation is a 24/7 operation, chaplaincy is available and responds where and when required 24/7, through our shared after hours on-call roster.

In their role, chaplains seek to be a safe, nonjudgemental, secure, confidential, listening ear and will make themselves regularly available to workplaces, hospitals, and other requested locations. Chaplaincy is a service offering care and support to all employees, police veterans, and their families, regardless of any or no faith affiliation.

We are seeking a suitably qualified professional to join our chaplaincy staff team to assist us in continuing to develop a diverse multi-faith, inclusive and proactive chaplaincy program. You will report to the Chaplaincy Team Leader, assist in enhancing and developing our units' goals, and be expected to be able to operate independently with good self-initiative and motivation.

Your duties will include:

• Responding to referrals, requests, notifications, and direct contact from Wellbeing Services
• Providing pastoral and spiritual care to all our employees, police veterans, and their families
• Assist, identify, recruit, induct, visit and support our state-wide volunteer chaplaincy network
• Being available and included in our 24/7 rotating on-call roster, which will include responding to after-hours critical incidents as directed
• Intrastate travel and overnight stays when required
• Participate in giving lectures, presentations, corporate event facilitation, graduations, and award ceremonies
• Provide/coordinate ceremonial, funeral, memorials, wedding, baptism services as requested
• Coordinate visits to allocated police locations, specialist units, regional area commands
• Participate in Chaplaincy team meetings, planning sessions, training, conferences
• Be available to provide subject matter expertise for senior command, specialist units, and Wellbeing Services
• Interact and maintain good network connections with other faith groups and traditions
• Provide pastoral care assistance to the police academy staff and recruits

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience: 

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar, or allied pastoral ministry/chaplaincy role
• In good standing with a recognised faith tradition or chaplaincy organisation
• Experienced in managing, overseeing and conducting complex ceremonies and bereavement support
• Registered to conduct Marriage ceremonies
• Excellent pastoral counselling and listening skills
• Proven ability to work within a team environment
• Understands the nature and requirements of working with, developing, and supporting volunteers

Further Information:

• One (1) x full-time, VPS5, ongoing position available.
• This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
• This position requires participation on a 24/7 on-call rotating roster as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
