Time Out is looking for a Melbourne based editor to lead its content for 12 months while our Managing Editor is on parental leave.
This is a hands-on editorial role for someone who is passionate about Melbourne and all that it offers. You will shape how our audience discovers the city's food, drink, arts, culture and events across the website, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and email.
The role
You will run the editorial output for Time Out Melbourne, which covers writing, commissioning, editing, creating social tiles, filming, scheduling and reporting, making sure to run a mix of content that meets Time Out Melbourne’s goals.
You will also represent the brand publicly. That means appearing in videos, attending events and venues, and building relationships with the operators, festivals and agencies. Melbourne's major annual projects, including the Food & Drink Awards, also sit with this role.
The wider Australian editorial team is based in Sydney, so you will need to take direction from the Editor in Chief remotely while also being trustworthy enough to make certain editorial calls for your city in line with Time Out's brand and business objectives. What we are looking for:3+ years as an editor, writer, journalist or content creator, with a focus on food, the arts, culture, travel or lifestyleStrong writing and editing skillsA keen interest in and experience creating content for social media – and knowledge of social trends and algorithmsConfidence on camera and genuine fluency in social videoThe ability to use audience insights data to optimise content and adapt strategy as neededThe ability to work independently while following direction, and to manage several projects at once in a fast-paced and ever-changing digital environment Deep knowledge of Melbourne and a real interest in what is happening across the cityA degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
