About this opportunity 
 
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is now actively hiring for Election Project Officers with experience in Staffing, Workforce Operations and Recruitment co-ordination to support the delivery of the 2026 Victorian State Election. 
 
This is an exciting time at VEC and these positions are directly involved in helping to coordinate workforce information, supporting operational teams, maintaining workforce data, and ensuring critical election activities stay on track. 
 
We're specifically looking for people who enjoy and are skilled at problem solving on the fly,  who can manage competing priorities using great communication and organization skills and who take in delivering accurate work to tight deadlines. 
 
Candidates with experience working in a labour-hire environment, event staffing team, recruitment agency or a busy internal HR and recruitment team would be well suited to these roles.

A day in the life of an Election Project Officer. Staffing 

• This office-based project support role contributes to a range of election operations and workforce activities. Responsibilities may include:
• Maintaining and updating workforce and operational data across Excel and internal systems
• Monitoring recruitment, staffing and operational information
• Investigating and resolving data discrepancies across multiple systems
• Liaising with stakeholders to obtain information and follow up actions
• Supporting workforce planning, rostering and coordination activities
• Responding to enquiries from internal stakeholders and election staff
• Preparing reports, spreadsheets and operational updates
• Following established procedures to ensure data accuracy and compliance
• Escalating issues appropriately and contributing to process improvements

Experience in high-volume operational environments will be highly regarded, including workforce coordination, recruitment, project support, events or hospitality. 
 
Working arrangements 
These roles will initially operate under a hybrid working arrangement, with up to two days working from home each week. 
As election activity increases, attendance requirements will change. From late October through to the election period, successful candidates will be expected to: 

• Work full-time from the Plummer Street precinct in Port Melbourne
• Be available to work five days per week on site
• Participate in rostered day and evening shifts during peak election operations (from November 1 onwards)
• Be available during the weeks immediately before and after Election Day (Saturday 28 November)

Flexibility during the election period is essential.
