About Austin Health Pathology

Austin Health Pathology is a leading accredited pathology provider delivering high-quality diagnostic services across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Supporting hospitals, clinicians and local communities, we offer comprehensive pathology testing backed by specialist expertise, research, education and innovation. Our regional laboratories are supported by our 24/7 Heidelberg laboratory, providing a full range of diagnostic services and specialist capabilities.

About the role

As the Business Analyst/Informatics – Pathology you will provide high-level analytical, operational and project support to the Pathology leadership team, enabling informed decision-making, service optimisation and successful delivery of transformation initiatives.

You will work across both day‑to‑day operations and strategic projects, translating clinical, operational, IT and financial requirements into actionable insights, process improvements and implementable solutions that support safe, efficient and sustainable pathology services.

A regular day will see you:

• Drive service improvement by analysing performance data, identifying trends and uncovering opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality and patient outcomes across pathology services.
• Turn data into meaningful insights through the development of reports, dashboards and performance metrics that support informed decision-making and strategic planning.
• Lead business improvement initiatives by reviewing workflows, streamlining processes and contributing to service redesign projects that improve operational effectiveness.
• Partner with stakeholders across the organisation, including clinical, operational, finance and IT teams, to gather requirements, facilitate consultation and deliver practical, evidence-based solutions.
• Develop high-quality business and governance documentation, including business cases, option analyses and process maps, while supporting compliance, audit requirements and continuous improvement activities.

About you

You’ll also bring with you:

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst in a complex service environment, with the ability to translate operational data into meaningful insights and practical recommendations.
• Strong process improvement expertise, including process mapping, workflow redesign and the delivery of initiatives that improve efficiency, service quality and outcomes.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with advanced capability in data analysis, reporting and performance measurement using tools such as Excel and SQL.
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and communicate confidently across clinical, operational and executive audiences.
• Excellent project and communication skills, including experience gathering requirements, developing business cases and delivering high-quality reports, presentations and documentation.
• Demonstrated experience in pathology, laboratory operations or healthcare services, with an understanding of laboratory information systems and service delivery environments.
• Knowledge of healthcare funding and billing frameworks, including revenue optimisation, activity-based funding and Medicare arrangements.
