About the role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional looking to further develop their technical accounting skills while working in a fast-paced professional services environment.

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting financial reporting, compliance, month-end processes, reconciliations, accounts administration and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with stakeholders across the firm and gain exposure to a broad range of finance activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Support month-end and year-end processes, including preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
• Assist with financial reporting, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and audit requirements.
• Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger and fixed asset management.
• Prepare balance sheet, bank, trust and intercompany reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances as required.
• Support regulatory and compliance obligations, including BAS preparation and Payment Times Reporting.
• Assist with banking administration, treasury activities and cash management processes.
• Provide support across accounts payable, billing and revenue activities.
• Partner with stakeholders across the firm to respond to queries and deliver high-quality financial support.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping to enhance finance systems, processes and the use of AI-driven tools and automation.

About you

You are a proactive and detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong foundation in financial accounting and a desire to continue developing your career. You will bring:

• A degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, with CPA or CA studies underway (or planned).
• Experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Officer or similar finance role.
• Strong accounting, reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and exposure to financial systems.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders.

Experience within a law firm or professional services environment would be desirable. Exposure to ERP, finance or practice management systems (e.g. Aderant Expert) will be highly regarded.
