About the role
$90,000 + super
This is not your typical admin role.
If you’re the person who naturally keeps things organised, spots what needs doing and gets on with it, this could be a role you genuinely make your own.
The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) is looking for a capable, practical and highly organised Executive Coordinator to work alongside our Executive Director and provide the administrative backbone for our national office.
It’s a broad role spanning Executive and Council support, members and sponsors, communications, events, records and the day-to-day running of the office. You’ll be trusted to stay across the detail, anticipate what needs doing and follow things through.
If you like being the person others can rely on, there is a lot to like here.
The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) is the national voice of rural, livestock and regional road transporters, representing family-owned and regional transport businesses across Australia. Working with six state member associations, we engage across industry, government and community to advocate for practical outcomes that reflect the realities of rural and regional transport.
The role is based at the Australian Trucking Association building in Canberra’s Parliamentary Triangle, placing you in the heart of Australia’s transport policy and advocacy community.
Full-time, Canberra-based position with free onsite parking
A high level of autonomy and trust in how you work
Some flexibility once you’re established in the role
Direct exposure to industry leaders and national stakeholders
A genuinely varied role where your contribution will be noticed
Scope to improve systems and ways of working in a small, down-to-earth organisation
At its heart, this role is about keeping ALRTA organised, responsive and moving forward. Working directly with our Executive Director, you'll provide dependable support across the organisation and become an important point of continuity for our national office. We're a small national team, so there will also be times when you're working independently from the Canberra office. You'll stay connected with our members, sponsors, Council and other stakeholders, but you'll need to be comfortable working autonomously and getting on with things without needing someone beside you.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating Council, Executive and committee meetings, including agendas, papers, minutes, action registers, correspondence and governance records
Supporting members, sponsors and stakeholders through enquiries, membership administration, contact records, sponsor reporting and delivery of agreed commitments
Preparing and scheduling newsletters, routine social media and stakeholder communications, while keeping the website and SharePoint records current
Providing administrative support for policy work, submissions, consultations and advocacy activities
Supporting conferences, events and stakeholder meetings, and keeping the practical day-to-day requirements of the national office running smoothly
Maintaining accurate records, databases and filing systems while identifying sensible ways to improve administrative processes and systems
You’re probably the person who sees the loose ends.
You notice when something hasn’t been followed up. You remember the thing everyone else forgot. And when you see a process that could work better, your instinct is to figure out how to improve it.
You’re organised without being rigid, professional without being overly corporate, and comfortable dealing with everyone from rural transport operators and sponsors to senior executives and government stakeholders. You're comfortable working independently and don't need constant direction. Once you understand what needs to happen, you take ownership and follow it through.
Strong experience in administration, coordination, operations or executive support
Excellent organisation, prioritisation and attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Confidence working autonomously, exercising sound judgement and managing competing priorities
Strong Microsoft Office skills and confidence learning and improving systems
A practical, resourceful and adaptable approach, with the maturity to engage confidently across a wide range of stakeholders
Highly regarded:
An interest in or connection to rural, agricultural or transport industries
Experience within an industry association, membership organisation, transport, agriculture, government or another stakeholder-focused environment
Experience with database management
Experience with websites, SharePoint, newsletters, social media or event coordination
This is primarily an office-based role in Canberra. For an outstanding candidate, we may consider part-time or school-hours arrangements. Some flexibility may also be available once you’re established in the role and an effective working relationship has been developed.
Please apply through SEEK with your CV and a cover letter telling us why this particular role caught your attention and what you believe you would bring to ALRTA.
Applications close at 8:00am on 24 August 2026. Early applications are encouraged, as suitable candidates may be contacted before the closing date.
