Our new café is fast becoming a cherished spot for both locals and visitors, offering the simple pleasures of great coffee, homestyle cooking, and a beautiful setting, all in one place.

Located within the grounds of Diaco's Garden Nursery in Heatherton, we offer a unique garden-to-plate style vibe. Our guests also enjoy fresh ingredients sourced directly from our garden.

The Role

Fred and Peg's is flourishing and we are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, creative, and experienced Chef/Cook to join our team in a new part-time position. This is a unique opportunity to work in a creative environment where fresh produce is at the forefront of all of our cooking, to craft beautifully presented and prepared homestyle cooking, and to assist in creating seasonal menu's that reflect our garden to plate style.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee kitchen operations, ensuring food quality and timely service.

• Prepare and present dishes that reflect both beauty and flavour.

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in the kitchen.

• Manage inventory and place orders to ensure stock levels are maintained.

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, incorporating them into our offerings.

• Accommodate guests with allergies or specific dietary needs by adjusting food items as necessary.

• Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service.

• Communicate regularly with the café owner to discuss improvements and customer feedback.

• Experience working in a busy kitchen environment.

• Passion for the hospitality industry with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

• Excellent communication skills and a passion for working collaboratively in a close-knit team.

• Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends, with a commitment to excellence even under pressure.

• Well-presented and professional demeanour.

• An honest and hardworking individual.

• A keen understanding of OH&S and food hygiene requirements.

• Creative and a boundless love for cooking.

• Must be available Tuesday and Friday 7am-3.30pm, and Saturday 7.30am-4pm.
