Disability Support Worker - High Intensity Supports

Join a specialist disability support organisation committed to empowering people with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities to live independently and achieve their goals. We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Female Disability Support Worker to support a male adult participant with complex physical support needs in McKellar, ACT.

About the Role

You will provide person-centred supports to an adult male, who has a neurological condition resulting in significant physical disability and communication challenges. He is living in the family home with his wife and values support workers who build positive relationships, are reliable, willing to learn, and who respond well to feedback. 

This role offers an opportunity to develop specialist skills through training and ongoing support from CPSN, the client and his wife.

Shifts Available

• 2 mornings per week 
• Morning support shifts: 7:00am to 9:30am
• Exercise support shifts: 10:30am to 12:30pm

Days are flexible and will be confirmed with successful applicants. 

Key Responsibilities

• Assistance with personal care
• Supporting exercise and therapy programs
• Manual handling and transfers
• Supporting daily routines and independence
• Working collaboratively with the participant and family
• Following support plans and health-related procedures
• Providing respectful, person-centred support at all times 

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with:

• A positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Reliability, punctuality, and professional communication skills
• Experience supporting people with disability or complex care needs
• Ability to follow individualised communication methods and visual cues
• Experience with manual handling and transfers (desirable)

Experience in the following areas is highly regarded:

• Bowel care
• Catheter care
• Complex physical support needs

Training can be provided to the right candidate. 

Essential Requirements

• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Australian working rights
• Commitment to safe manual handling practices
