Crowd Controller

About the role

Security By Design Pty Ltd is seeking a Crowd Controller to join our security team on a casual basis. This role is based in Hobart, TAS 7000 and offers the flexibility of casual work whilst providing essential security services to our clients. As a Crowd Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining safety and order at events, venues, and public spaces, ensuring the wellbeing of all attendees whilst managing crowds effectively and professionally.

What you'll be doing

• Managing crowd flow and directing people to designated areas in a calm and professional manner

• Monitoring entry and exit points to ensure compliance with venue capacity limits and safety regulations

• Identifying and responding to potential safety hazards or security threats

• Communicating effectively with other security personnel, venue staff, and event organisers

• Enforcing venue policies, licensing conditions, and relevant legislation

• De-escalating conflict situations with tact and diplomacy

• Conducting bag checks and screening procedures where required

• Maintaining detailed incident reports and documentation

• Providing assistance to emergency services when required

• Remaining alert and vigilant throughout shifts to ensure a safe environment for all attendees

What we're looking for

• Current Tasmanian Security License with the Crowd Control Endorsement

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure

• Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods

• Excellent conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities

• Knowledge of relevant security legislation and venue management practices

• A professional appearance and ability to maintain professional standards

• Reliability and punctuality

• Current First Aid certification is preferred

• Previous experience in security, hospitality, or event management is advantageous

• Working With Children Check (WWCC) or Police Check may be required depending on venue requirements
