About the role
Make a difference to people’s lives by helping our community hear better.
Mackay Hearing is a locally and independently owned hearing clinic, proudly focused on the hearing needs of our Mackay community.
We are looking for a friendly, personable and proactive Audiology Assistant to join our dedicated team.
This is more than a reception or administration role. You will be an important part of our clients’ hearing care journey — from the moment they walk through our doors, to supporting them throughout their ongoing care.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people, communicates exceptionally well and takes pride in making clients feel comfortable, valued and cared for.
Most importantly, we're looking for the right person. Someone who notices what needs to be done, takes initiative, asks questions, solves problems and is happy to take ownership rather than always waiting to be told what to do.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
You will be one of the first points of contact for our clients and will play an important role in ensuring the clinic runs smoothly and our clients receive an excellent experience.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming and assisting clients with warmth, patience and professionalism
Building genuine rapport with clients and making them feel comfortable and cared for
Managing appointments and clinic schedules
Answering phone and email enquiries
Processing patient records and administrative documentation
Supporting our audiologists and ensuring clients move smoothly and comfortably through their appointments
Assisting clients with basic hearing device troubleshooting and practical support
Handling payments and Medicare/private billing (training provided if required)
Helping maintain a welcoming, organised and professional clinic environment
Recognising what needs to be done and taking initiative to keep things running smoothly
Every day will be a little different, and we value someone who is happy to pitch in and help wherever needed.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Naturally personable and genuinely enjoys working with people
A confident and thoughtful communicator who can build rapport with clients
Warm, caring and professional in their approach
Proactive and willing to take initiative rather than waiting to be asked
Someone who notices things, thinks ahead and takes ownership of their work
Calm and capable when dealing with challenging or sensitive situations
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Able to stay calm, organised and client-focused when the clinic gets busy
Adaptable and happy to help with changing priorities and commitments within the team
Comfortable asking questions, learning new skills and solving problems
Comfortable with ear wax! 🙂
Previous medical, allied health or customer service experience is desirable but not essential
You don't need to have worked in audiology before. We are very happy to train the right person.
What matters most to us is your attitude, your ability to communicate with people and your genuine desire to provide great care to our clients.
We would particularly love to hear from people who have demonstrated initiative and excellent customer service in previous roles — whether that has been in healthcare, hospitality, retail, administration, aged care or another customer-facing environment.
Hours
Preferably full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
We are willing to be flexible with hours for the right person.
Why Join Us?
Stable Monday to Friday hours — enjoy your weekends!
Be part of a locally owned and independent business
Work in a friendly, supportive and professional team
Make a genuine difference to the lives of people in our local community
Work in a purpose-driven healthcare environment
Training and development opportunities
Variety in your day-to-day work
Be part of a practice where client care genuinely matters
Flexible working arrangements for the right person
How to Apply
If you are genuinely passionate about people, customer care and making a difference in your community, we would love to hear from you.
Please submit your resume and a short cover letter telling us why you would be a great fit for our team.
We'd particularly love to hear about a time when you have taken initiative, solved a problem or gone above and beyond to help a client or customer.
Applications can be submitted through SEEK or emailed to ••••@mackayhearing.com.au.
We are looking for the right person to join our team — if you think that could be you, we would love to hear from you.
