About the Opportunity

As Practice Lead – Child & Family Care, you will provide strategic practice leadership across residential and outreach programs, ensuring services are child-centred, trauma-informed, evidence-based, and aligned with legislative and quality standards.

Working closely with leaders and frontline teams, you will guide complex case management, drive continuous improvement initiatives, strengthen workforce capability, and champion the voices of children and young people in everything we do.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Providing practice leadership across Child and Youth residential and outreach services, ensuring the delivery of consistent, high-quality, child-centred and trauma-informed care
• Supporting complex case management and practice decision-making by providing expert guidance, consultation, and oversight to leaders and frontline teams
• Maintaining oversight of service delivery to ensure quality, consistency, responsiveness, and the achievement of positive outcomes for children and young people
• Promoting a culture of accountability, child safety, continuous learning, and professional excellence, fostering reflective practice and evidence-based approaches across all programs
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, funding requirements, organisational policies, and child protection frameworks, maintaining strong governance and professional accountability
• Leading quality assurance, practice review, and incident management processes, ensuring effective risk identification, timely responses, corrective actions, and continuous service improvement
• Monitoring service performance and analyse data, trends, feedback, and outcomes to inform decision-making and drive improvements in practice, quality, and service effectiveness
• Leading the development and implementation of best-practice systems, frameworks, and improvement initiatives that strengthen service delivery and organisational capability
• Providing supervision, coaching, mentoring, and capability development to frontline teams, supporting workforce growth, performance, engagement, and a high-performance culture
• Building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships and advocate for best-practice outcomes, acting as a senior escalation point for complex matters and ensuring the voices of children and young people inform service delivery and sector improvement

About you

To be considered for this rewarding role you will have:

• Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, standards, and contemporary practice frameworks
• Experience providing practice leadership, coaching, supervision, and workforce development
• Sound understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and child-centred approaches
• Demonstrated experience in child protection, residential care, youth services, family support, or a related field
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship management skills
• Ability to lead complex practice discussions and support quality outcomes for young people
• Highly developed person-centred communication skills
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated high level of attention to detail with a consistent approach
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise conflicting priorities as required
• Ability to work under minimal supervision with the capacity to exercise initiative in the application of work processes and procedures and establish objectives and outcomes
• High level organisational and administrative skills
• Proven ability to think critically and approach challenges with innovation

Role requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (Child & Family Studies/Community Services etc)
• Occasional out of hours work may be required from time to time
• Travel to selectability sites may be required
• Current open/P1 “C” Class Queensland driver’s licence
• Child Safety & Personal History Screening check
• Positive notice working with children (blue card)
• NDIS workers screening Clearance
• NDIS Worker Orientation Module “Quality, Safety & You” completion certificate
• Current nationally recognised first aid and CPR certificates (or ability to obtain within first month of employment)

The Practice Lead – Child & Family Care is a Fulltime position based in Townsville.
