Accountant/Assistant Accountant

About the role
Working closely with the CFO, you'll own day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, support month-end close, reporting and grant compliance, and coordinate corporate administration — a hands-on role at the financial heart of the organisation as they scale up. 
Key responsibilities

• Financial Accounting: Own day-to-day records in Xero — AP, AR, payment runs, invoicing, bank reconciliations, expenses, and payroll, BAS and GST support.
• Month-End Support: Assist the CFO with close, reconciliations, cashflow reporting and audit preparation.
• Management Accounting: Support inventory accounting, product costing and BOM data, and help implement an MRP system alongside Xero.
• Contracts Management: Maintain the contract register and coordinate our outsourced corporate service providers.
• Grants: Track grant spend, maintain the compliance calendar and assist with claims and acquittals.
• Process Improvement: Help document, streamline and strengthen finance and administration processes and controls.

About you

• An accounting, commerce or business qualification or equivalent experience — CPA / CA studies well regarded.
• Strong hands-on accounting capability — AP, AR, reconciliations and month-end support — with solid Xero, Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
• A management accounting mindset — you understand production variances and cost per unit, not just the debits and credits.
• Exposure to manufacturing or process-based industries — inventory accounting, BOMs, product costing — and the systems curiosity to help implement an MRP system.
• Experience managing contracts or outsourced providers, or supporting grants and R&D tax incentive claims, is highly desirable.
