About the role
The Melanoma Institute (MIA) is an independent, non - profit organisation located in North Sydney. MIA is formally affiliated with the University of Sydney and collaborates with individuals at St Vincent's and Mater Health, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and at the University of Sydney to improve the outcome of patients with melanoma. Each year around 1,200 new melanoma patients are referred to the Institute and approximately 12,000 follow-ups occur. MIA has become a major referral centre for melanoma patients in NSW and overseas.
Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is seeking an experienced Clinical Trials Clinical Leader to provide clinical, operational and professional leadership across our Clinical Trials Unit.
This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity leave cover position, providing an opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within our Clinical Trials Unit.
Our Clinical Trials Team coordinates around 40 clinical trials at any one time, providing patients with access to new and investigative treatments while contributing to important melanoma research. The Clinical Trials Clinical Leader works closely with the Clinical Trials Management Team and Team Leaders to support the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of clinical trials. The role provides leadership across clinical operations, staff development, workforce planning and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide clinical and operational leadership across the Clinical Trials Unit.Work with the Management Team on trial allocation, workforce planning and resource requirements.Support Team Leaders with day-to-day clinical operations, staff development and performance management.Provide senior clinical oversight and support across clinical trial activities.Ensure clinical trials are conducted in line with protocols, departmental procedures, ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and relevant regulatory and governance requirements.Identify and manage clinical, operational and compliance risks and support continuous improvement across the team.Provide leadership, mentoring and development to Team Leaders and other clinical trials staff.Contribute to the planning, prioritisation and activation of new clinical trials.Work closely with clinical, research and data management teams to support effective trial delivery.Lead and contribute to projects, quality assurance activities, education and training across the Clinical Trials Unit.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Medicine or a relevant health-related discipline.A minimum of five years’ experience working in clinical trials, including at least two years in a leadership or senior clinical trials role.Strong knowledge of the clinical trial lifecycle, including feasibility, start-up, activation, conduct, monitoring, data management, close-out and governance.Strong working knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP), clinical trial regulations and research governance requirements.Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams within a clinical trials or research environment.Experience in people leadership, performance management and staff development.Experience in quality assurance, risk management and continuous improvement within clinical research.Strong communication, organisational, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.The ability to lead and influence across multidisciplinary teams and work effectively with clinicians, management and external stakeholders.Postgraduate qualifications in clinical research, management or a related field will be highly regarded.
