Director of Budgeting

About the Organisation Our client is a large Queensland Government organisation undergoing significant change within its finance function. As part of a broader transformation program, they are investing in stronger governance, modern budgeting practices and improved financial capability across the business.

This is an opportunity to step into a key leadership position where you'll have the autonomy to improve systems, develop people and influence how budgeting is delivered across the organisation. While initially offered as a six-month contract, there is strong potential for extension for the right person.

About the Role
Reporting to a senior finance leader, you will lead a team of four finance professionals while driving improvements across the department's budgeting function. This role is focused on strengthening governance, modernising budget processes and building stronger relationships between finance and the wider business.
Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and develop the budgeting team, providing clear direction, mentoring and support to build capability.
• Review and improve existing budget models, forecasting processes and financial governance.
• Partner closely with stakeholders across the organisation to improve financial literacy and support better decision-making.
• Drive change by implementing more contemporary budgeting practices, improving processes and establishing clear timelines and accountability.
• Ensure strong governance over budget adjustments and reporting while preparing the organisation for future budget cycles.

About You You are a confident finance leader who enjoys improving the way teams work and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo. You know how to bring people on the journey through change while still holding them accountable for delivering results.
To be successful, you will bring:

• Demonstrated leadership experience within budgeting, financial management or finance business partnering.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting and financial governance within a complex organisation.
• Experience leading change, improving systems and implementing more effective financial processes.
• The ability to build strong relationships across the business while confidently influencing senior stakeholders.
• A collaborative leadership style with a genuine passion for mentoring staff and lifting team capability.
• Previous Queensland Government budgeting experience will be highly regarded, however candidates from other complex environments with strong leadership capability will also be considered.
