About the Middle School

The Preshil Middle School is a new chapter — purposefully designed, deeply considered and grounded in what we know about young adolescents and what they need to flourish. Launching at our Arlington Campus in 2027 with Years 6 and 7, the program will expand to a full Years 6–8 model in 2028.

Informed by a 2026 study tour of progressive schools in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and by decades of Preshil's own progressive educational practice, the Middle School is built around three interconnecting elements:

• Homeroom — the relational anchor, ensuring every student is deeply known and supported by a dedicated teacher who provides a consistent point of connection for students and families.

• Projects — providing opportunities for self-expression, inquiry and skill development through a three-year Personal Project Arc, from scaled inquiries in Year 6 to a signature Community Project in Year 7 and a public Reflective Practice presentation in Year 8.

• Lab — an ongoing one-to-one connection between student and teacher, providing a space for guidance, challenge and genuine partnership within project learning.

The Middle School sits within our Arlington Campus alongside the Prep to Year 5 community, sharing its traditions, spaces and community life while creating a learning experience responsive to the distinct developmental needs of young adolescents.

Teachers joining the Middle School in 2027 will become part of an exciting and collaborative teaching team, bringing their subject expertise and passion for working with young people to a program that values strong relationships, curiosity, student agency and meaningful learning.

About the Roles

We are seeking expressions of interest from passionate and engaging teachers to join our Middle School teaching team from Term 1, 2027. We are looking for teachers who are energised by working with young young people and inspired by a relational, progressive and student-centred approach to learning.

We are particularly interested in hearing from teachers with methods and experience across one or more of the following areas:

• Humanities 

• Science 

• Mathematics 

• Health & Physical Education 

• French

• Art 

Full-time and part-time opportunities may be available, depending on teaching methods, experience and program requirements.

About You

You will bring:

• relevant teaching qualifications and current VIT registration.

• teaching methods and experience in one or more of the identified learning areas.

• enthusiasm for teaching and supporting students in the middle years.

• strong contemporary teaching practice.

• the ability to create engaging, inclusive and student-centred learning experiences.

• a relational approach and commitment to knowing students as individuals.

• a collaborative and flexible approach to working with colleagues.

• openness to interdisciplinary, inquiry-based and project-based learning; and

• alignment with Preshil's values and progressive educational philosophy.
