Swift Customs is a growing Australian customs brokerage specialising in providing professional customs clearance and compliance services to importers, exporters and freight forwarders.

We are looking for a Customer Service & Customs Brokerage Support Officer to join our Welshpool office.

This is not a traditional customer service role.

The position is heavily focused on supporting our Customs Brokers and assisting with the day-to-day management of customs clearance jobs. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who already has experience in customs, freight forwarding or import/export operations — and equally, for someone looking to build a long-term career in Australian Customs Brokerage.

About the role

Working closely with our experienced Customs Brokers and operations team, you will assist with the efficient processing of customs clearances from initial customer instruction through to release.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Receiving and processing customer clearance instructions.

• Reviewing commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, air waybills and other import documentation.

• Checking documentation for completeness and identifying missing or inconsistent information.

• Preparing and registering customs clearance jobs.

• Assisting Customs Brokers with the preparation and processing of import declarations.

• Liaising with clients, freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, transport companies and other service providers.

• Following up outstanding information required to complete customs entries.

• Assisting with tariff classification and gathering information required to classify goods.

• Assisting with duty, GST, valuation and other customs-related enquiries.

• Monitoring customs entries and following their progress through the Integrated Cargo System (ICS).

• Assisting with quarantine/biosecurity and other government agency requirements.

• Coordinating customs examinations, inspections and holds where required.

• Communicating clearance status and requirements to customers.

• Maintaining accurate electronic records and job files.

• Assisting with post-entry amendments, acquittals and other brokerage administration.

• Providing general administrative and customer service support to the Customs Brokers.

• Learning and developing an understanding of Australian Customs legislation, procedures and compliance requirements.

This role could suit you if you have:

• Experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, import/export or international logistics.

• Previous experience dealing with customs documentation and clearance processes.

• An understanding of Australian import procedures.

• Experience with ICS, customs software or freight forwarding systems.

• Strong attention to detail and an ability to identify discrepancies in documentation.

• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• The ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities in a busy environment.

• A professional and customer-focused approach.

• Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

• The ability to work independently while also being part of a close-knit team.
