General Manager - Labour Hire

About the role

The General Manager or National Manager plays a critical, hands-on role in the day-to-day running of the recruitment agency. Beyond setting frameworks and strategy, this role actively supports branches and consultants in real time—removing operational roadblocks, stepping in during high-volume or high-pressure periods, and ensuring recruitment teams can focus on winning and delivering work. This is a highly visible, practical leadership role suited to someone who understands recruitment from the ground up and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to support consultants, managers, and clients when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Operations & Business Support

• Oversee and support the daily operational rhythm of the business across all branches

• Act as a central escalation point for operational issues affecting consultants, candidates, clients, or contractors

• Proactively identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks impacting job flow, placements, onboarding, payroll, or billing

• Maintain strong visibility across live jobs, contractor numbers, onboarding volumes, and operational capacity

Hands-On Support to Recruitment Teams

• Step in to support recruitment teams during peak periods, staff shortages, or high-volume client demands

• Assist consultants and managers with:

  • Candidate onboarding and compliance troubleshooting

  • Contractor mobilisation and redeployment

  • Client onboarding and operational setup

  • Process guidance for temp, perm, and contract placements

• Work alongside branch managers to stabilise underperforming or high-growth teams from an operational perspective

• Provide real-time coaching and guidance on best-practice recruitment operations

Operational Leadership

• Ensure consistent execution of national processes while remaining flexible to local market needs

• Translate business strategy into practical, workable daily actions for teams

• Partner closely with branch and state leaders to support execution, not just oversight

Process, Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Continuously review day-to-day recruitment workflows to improve speed, quality, and candidate experience

• Refine operational processes based on real feedback from consultants and clients

• Balance compliance requirements with practical, recruiter-friendly solutions

Systems & Workflow Enablement

• Ensure ATS/CRM, payroll, and compliance systems support recruiters rather than slow them down

• Actively support teams with system usage, troubleshooting, and adoption

• Identify gaps where systems or processes are impacting consultant productivity and fix them

Compliance, Payroll & Risk

• Oversee contractor compliance, payroll accuracy, and award interpretation on a daily basis

• Step in to resolve urgent payroll or compliance issues impacting candidates or clients

• Ensure recruitment teams understand and follow compliance requirements without unnecessary complexity

People Leadership & Culture

• Lead operational and support teams with a service-oriented mindset

• Foster a culture where operations is seen as a partner to recruitment, not a blocker

• Set the tone for accountability, responsiveness, and practical problem-solving

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong background in recruitment agency operations with hands-on experience

• Experience in a blue-collar industry is desirable

• Demonstrated ability to support recruiters in live environments

• Deep understanding of temp workforce operations, compliance, and payroll

• Experience working closely with consultants, clients, and contractors

• Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with daily execution

• Confident stepping into operational detail when required
