About the Team The role sits within Research Translation and Impact unit of the Research Office. The team supports researchers across the full research lifecycle and works closely across the university to enable research translation and impact.
Job PurposeThis role provides expert strategic and operational support for the identification, management, protection and commercialisation of research-generated intellectual property. It works closely with colleagues to align intellectual property management with research translation activities.
Role Responsibilities Provide advice on intellectual property identification, management and protection.Assess invention disclosures for patentability and work with external advisors on protection strategies.Manage patent processes and support valuation of intellectual property.Support development and review of intellectual property management plans across the research lifecycle.Draft, review and interpret intellectual property clauses and provide advice on intellectual property aspects of research agreements.Support resolution of complex intellectual property matters and facilitate negotiations of IP issues with internal and external stakeholders.Contribute to intellectual property portfolio management, reporting and continuous improvement.
Skills, Attributes and Knowledge Expertise in intellectual property management and commercialisation.Strong communication and relationship building skills across diverse stakeholders.Ability to interpret policy and provide strategic advice on complex matters.Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.Analytical and problem solving capability with a solution focused approach.Knowledge of the research and innovation ecosystem and intellectual property frameworks.
Experience Experience in intellectual property management and research translation in a research intensive environment.Experience in negotiation relating to licensing and research agreements.Experience drafting and interpreting intellectual property related legal clauses.Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
Qualifications A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline and substantial relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Qualifications in intellectual property law and registration as a patent attorney are highly desirable.

What We OfferBase Salary Range: $122,640 - $139,674 (HEW8) plus 17% superannuation (pension)
The position is full time and will be made on a continuing basis.
