Big-Box Retail Store Manager

We are an established Australian family-owned large-format retailer with more than 30 years' experience and a number of substantial retail stores across NSW.

Our stores offer an extensive and constantly changing range across homewares, gifts, seasonal and general merchandise, operating in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on retail leader to take ownership of our large-format store in Narellan, South Western Sydney.

This opportunity would suit either an accomplished Store Manager or an exceptional Assistant Store Manager from a large-format / big-box retail environment who is ready to take the next step and run their own store.

You'll have the scale, pace and challenge of a big-box retail environment, but with something that's becoming harder to find — the personal recognition, support and accessibility of a family-owned business.

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys running a store and leading from the front.

You'll be on the shop floor, working alongside your team, monitoring standards, looking at what's selling, making sure stock is moving, talking to customers and dealing with the day-to-day challenges that come with running a large, busy retail operation.

At the same time, you'll be responsible for the bigger picture — people, sales, wages, stock, costs, KPIs and overall store performance.

This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role with real responsibility and autonomy.

You'll work directly with senior management and the owners of the business. We want someone who can bring ideas to the table, make good commercial decisions and treat the store as if it were their own business.

You will take responsibility for:

• Leading, managing and motivating a sizeable retail team

• Recruitment, rostering, training and performance management

• Creating a strong team culture with clear standards and accountability

• Driving sales, KPIs and overall store performance

• Managing wages, budgets and operating costs

• Inventory management, stock control and stock movement

• Managing significant volumes of incoming stock

• Merchandising and maintaining high presentation standards across a large retail footprint

• Planning and executing major seasonal changeovers

• Identifying opportunities to improve sales, productivity and profitability

• Maintaining a consistently strong customer experience

• Solving problems quickly and taking responsibility for getting things done

Your current job title matters less to us than the level of responsibility you've actually had.

You may already be successfully managing a large retail store and be looking for a business where you can have more autonomy, more influence and where your contribution is genuinely recognized.

Or you may be an experienced Assistant Store Manager within a major big-box retailer, already heavily involved in running a substantial store and ready to take full ownership of one yourself.

Either way, you will need genuine experience leading people and operating within a large-format, big-box or high-volume retail environment.

If you're an Assistant Manager, we're looking for someone who has done much more than simply open and close the store. You should have meaningful involvement in team leadership, rostering, performance, KPIs, stock, merchandising and the overall operation of the business.

To be considered, you should have substantial management experience within a large-format, big-box or high-volume retail operation, ideally as:

• An experienced Store Manager with responsibility for the overall performance of a substantial retail store; or

• A highly capable Assistant Store Manager from a large-format / big-box retailer who is ready to step up and run their own store.

Management experience from environments such as large-format general merchandise, department stores, homewares, hardware, furniture, electrical, sporting goods, automotive, discount variety or other high-volume retail operations would all be relevant.

You will also need:

• Proven experience leading and motivating a sizeable retail team

• Strong people-management skills

• Experience with staffing, rostering, recruitment and performance management

• Exposure to sales targets, wages, budgets, costs and KPIs

• Strong inventory and stock-management experience

• Excellent communication and leadership skills

• A genuine hands-on management style

• Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability

• Unrestricted working rights in Australia

• Ability to pass pre-employment background checks

This is not an entry-level retail management position. Applicants need genuine management experience within a substantial retail operation.
