Accountant – IGA Supermarkets

About Us

We operate a group of 13 IGA supermarkets across Perth, with high annual turnover, as part of an established and growing retail group.

You’ll work as part of our finance team, reporting directly to the CFO, with support from an offshore accounting team.

About The Role

• This is a hands-on Accountant role with responsibility for the day-to-day accounting across our IGA supermarkets.

• You’ll be involved in the detail, accountable for accuracy and ensuring accounts are completed on time, while working closely with our internal and offshore teams.

• The role is primarily office-based. One day working from home may be available after probation, subject to demonstrating the ability to work effectively and independently.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Running month-end close, including journals, reconciliations and accruals

• Preparing monthly P&L and balance sheet reports

• Ensuring accounts are completed accurately and within required deadlines

• Managing supplier payments and day-to-day cash flow

• Reviewing AP, AR and reconciliations completed by the offshore team

• Working with and reviewing the work of the offshore accounting team

• Improving accounting processes and ways of working with the offshore team

• Preparing BAS and related compliance work, with external accountants reviewing/signing off

• Liaising with external accountants on year-end accounts

• Reviewing inventory entries and stock adjustments

• Managing accounting-related communications with stores and suppliers

• Following up stores and suppliers to resolve missing invoices, discrepancies, credits and other accounting queries

• Supporting the CFO and wider finance team with ad-hoc finance work

• Liaising with banks, insurers, suppliers and other external stakeholders as required

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

• A few years' experience in a hands-on accounting or finance role

• Working towards a CPA/CA qualification, or relevant practical accounting experience

• A current National Police Clearance, or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement, is essential.

• Comfortable managing payments and cash flow

• Confident reviewing other people's work and following up outstanding items

• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

• Organised, practical and accountable

• Good communication skills and confidence dealing with stores, suppliers and internal teams

• Good analytical and Excel skills

• Retail or multi-site experience helpful, but not required
