People and Culture Lead (Part Time)

About the role

The People and Culture Lead is the Law Society’s dedicated people and culture professional and is responsible for delivering the organisation’s end-to-end HR function. Operating as a standalone practitioner, the role partners closely with the CEO, Director Corporate Services and managers to provide trusted advice, workforce governance, employee relations support and HR systems leadership across the employee lifecycle.

This is a part-time position of approximately 0.6 FTE, with flexibility by agreement, offered on an initial two-year fixed-term contract. Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful applicant and paid on a pro rata basis commensurate with experience and capability.

The role is responsible for recruitment and onboarding, employment administration, workforce compliance, employee relations, HR systems administration, workforce reporting, learning and development, organisational culture and wellbeing initiatives, and payroll-related workforce administration. It combines workforce planning, organisational development and continuous improvement initiatives with hands-on operational delivery of people services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end delivery of the Law Society’s people and culture function across the employee lifecycle.
• Lead and manage recruitment and onboarding activities, providing advice to managers on workforce requirements, role design and recruitment approaches.
• Prepare employment agreements, contract variations and employment correspondence.
• Maintain employee records, workforce information and employment documentation.
• Provide trusted HR advice and support to managers and employees on workforce matters.
• Manage routine employee relations matters, including performance management support, workplace conduct, grievances, consultations and organisational change activities.
• Lead initiatives that promote employee wellbeing, engagement, inclusion, connection and a positive workplace culture.
• Champion a values-driven culture and support leaders to build high-performing and engaged teams.
• Review, recommend and implement improvements to HR policies, procedures and workforce management practices.
• Support compliance with employment legislation, workplace obligations and workforce governance requirements.
• Act as the business owner of HR systems, including Employment Hero, driving improvements in data quality, reporting, automation and workforce administration processes.
• Prepare workforce reports, metrics and insights to support Executive and Council decision-making.
• Contribute to workforce planning, organisational development initiatives, leadership capability development and workforce improvement projects.

About you

• Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience operating as a senior People and Culture practitioner, HR Manager, Senior HR Advisor, People and Culture Lead or equivalent role, with responsibility across the full employee lifecycle and broad ownership of the HR function.
• Proven ability to operate autonomously as a trusted adviser, balancing strategic workforce initiatives with day-to-day operational HR activities.
• Sound understanding and practical application of Australian employment legislation, modern awards and workplace relations frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience managing recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, workforce compliance and employee lifecycle activities.
• Experience administering HR systems, such as Employment Hero, and maintaining accurate workforce data and records.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and coaching skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and build trusted relationships without direct management authority.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on role with responsibility for both strategic people initiatives and workforce administration.
• Experience in a professional services, membership, not-for-profit or similarly complex organisation will be highly regarded.
