Practice nurse

About the role

The Practice Nurse will work closely with and support the GP and wider practice team in providing safe, high-quality primary healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Providing general practice nursing care and clinical support to patients

• Assisting the GP with procedures, examinations and other clinical activities as required

• Wound assessment, wound care and dressings

• Immunisations and vaccinations, including maintaining appropriate cold-chain procedures and documentation

• Health assessments and chronic disease management support

• Observations and basic clinical assessments, including blood pressure, weight and other measurements

• ECGs, spirometry and other practice-based investigations where appropriately trained

• Infection prevention and control

• Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation and nursing records

• Maintaining emergency equipment, clinical supplies and treatment-room readiness

About you

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse

• Appropriate professional indemnity arrangements

• Current CPR/BLS competency and other relevant mandatory training

• Good understanding of infection prevention and control

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Good clinical documentation and computer skills

• A patient-centred, professional and organised approach

• Ability to work independently within the RN scope of practice while collaborating closely with the treating GP

• Previous general practice or primary-care nursing experience is highly desirable

• Familiarity with general practice accreditation and RACGP Standards would be advantageous
