Sewing Machinist

Full-time or Part-time  |  Kirribilli, Sydney  |  $34-37 per hour + super

The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic sewing machinist to join our small, close-knit production team at Harry West Flags in Kirribilli.

This role is perfect for you if you have a proactive mindset, take pride in your workmanship, and love sewing. You do not need flag-making experience — we will train you in our patterns, templates, and processes. What matters most is your attitude, your aptitude, and your ability to work accurately at pace.

Our team comes from a wide range of sewing backgrounds — bridal, tailoring, curtains, swimwear, and everything in between. If you have worked with commercial machines and have adaptable skills, we can show you the rest.

We are Australia’s longest-established flag manufacturer, proudly making flags in Australia for over 117 years. Our warehouse is based in Kirribilli, just a five-minute walk from Milsons Point Station, right on the harbour.

We are a small, collaborative team that values quality, reliability, and craftsmanship. We work at a fast pace, but we support each other and take pride in what we make.

What You Will Be Doing

•       Operating commercial sewing machines to produce fully sewn flags to our quality standards

•       Cutting fabric accurately using patterns and templates

•       Following established processes and standard operating procedures

•       Working as part of a small production team to meet daily output targets

•       Maintaining quality and accuracy across all tasks 

What We Are Looking For

Essential

•       Minimum 1–2 years of experience with commercial or industrial sewing machines

•       Ability to follow patterns accurately and apply your skills to new challenges

•       Cooperative team player with strong attention to detail

•       Comfortable working at a fast pace while maintaining quality

•       Valid Australian work rights (including valid visa holders)

Highly Desirable

•       Experience with cutting and/or pattern making

•       Experience with embroidery machines or other specialist sewing equipment

•       Any background in flag making, canvas work, or industrial textile production
