Incident Manager

The Role

This role is responsible for supporting the continuous growth, maturity managing sensitive subjects, and improvement of Special Operations Command (SOCOMD)'s Incident Management capability. The position provides specialist advice, coordination management and governance oversight, policy support, and performance reporting to ensure incidents are managed consistently, effectively, and in accordance with Defence requirements.

The position is responsible for leading and coordinating Incident Management capabilities across SOCOMD, ensuring effective governance, compliance, and continuous improvement. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing authoritative advice and support to SOCOMD Headquarters and Units on Incident Management policy, procedures, and related activities.
• Maintaining and reviewing the Incident Management Directive on an annual basis to ensure currency, compliance, and alignment with Defence and Army requirements.
• Coordinating the development, implementation, and communication of Incident Management policies, procedures, frameworks, and best-practice guidance across the Command.
• Ensuring Incident Management training programs are available, fit-for-purpose, and responsive to the operational and organisational requirements of SOCOMD.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives by identifying efficiencies, implementing process enhancements, and embedding best practice across Incident Management functions.
• Liaising and collaborating with Army Headquarters, Functional Commands, Group-level stakeholders, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to Incident Management.
• Leading the analysis, trending, and reporting of Incident Management data, providing weekly insights to the Senior Leadership Group and quarterly strategic reporting to the SOCOMD Board to support informed decision-making and risk management.
• Fostering collaboration across enabling service functions to improve information sharing, strengthen organisational effectiveness, and deliver coordinated outcomes in support of Command priorities.
• Supporting Command leadership by providing strategic advice, identifying emerging risks and trends, and contributing to the development of a proactive Incident Management culture across SOCOMD.

About our Team

This position sits within SOFENT, an enabling team that provides critical workforce, governance, and administrative support to Special Operations Command. The team delivers a range of essential services, including recruitment, governance, security, and Work Health and Safety management, as well as broader organisational and corporate support functions. 

Through the effective coordination of these activities, SOFENT ensures access to the people, processes, systems, and resources required to maintain operational readiness and successfully deliver operational outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the Defence ERP Case Management Solution (DECMS) and associated Incident Management processes. 
• The ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, Defence policies, and procedural requirements to ensure advice, analysis, and outcomes are aligned with the Special Operations Command operating environment. 
• Experience contributing to Incident Management planning, governance, and policy development for Headquarters Special Operations Command and the broader Command, including Special Forces Group Regiments. 
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with experience preparing high-quality briefs, reports, correspondence, and performance metrics for a range of stakeholders. 
• The ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify requirements, gather information, provide advice, and deliver practical solutions. 
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships across diverse teams and organisational levels. 
• A commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and fostering a positive workplace culture through active participation in team and group activities. 
• The ability to identify emerging risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement, and contribute to the development of effective governance and assurance outcomes. 

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
