Shop Assistant/ Counter Staff

About the role

SA Gourmet Meats is seeking enthusiastic and friendly Shop Assistants/Counter Staff to join our team in Port Adelaide. This is a casual position offering flexible hours to suit your lifestyle. As a Shop Assistant/Counter Staff member, you will be the face of our business, delivering exceptional customer service whilst handling transactions and maintaining our retail space. This role is crucial to creating a welcoming environment that keeps our customers coming back for premium quality meats and gourmet products.

Key responsibilities

• Serving customers at the counter with professionalism and enthusiasm, taking orders and processing purchases accurately

• Providing knowledgeable product recommendations and advice on meat quality, cuts and preparation methods

• Operating the point-of-sale system and handling cash, card and electronic payments with accuracy

• Maintaining a clean, hygienic and well-organised retail space in compliance with food safety regulations

• Restocking shelves and displays with products, ensuring merchandise is presented attractively and is easily accessible

• Assisting with food preparation and packaging where required, following health and safety protocols

• Building positive relationships with customers and addressing any queries or concerns promptly

• Supporting the team to meet sales targets and contribute to a positive store atmosphere

What we're looking for

• Excellent customer service skills with a genuine passion for helping customers

• Strong communication abilities and a friendly, approachable demeanour

• Basic numeracy skills and reliability with handling cash and operating till systems

• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment, sometimes during peak trading periods

• Flexibility to work casual hours, including potential weekend and evening shifts

• Ideally, some retail or food service experience, though training will be provided for the right candidate

• Food handling certification or willingness to obtain this qualification
