About the role
About Vormen
Vormen is an architect-led construction company delivering architecturally designed residential projects across Melbourne.
Founded by an architect and a carpenter, we bring an understanding of both design and construction to the way our projects are delivered.
Our projects are detailed, considered and often complex. We believe the best results come from good planning, clear communication and people taking genuine ownership of their work.
As Vormen continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Foreman / Lead Carpenter to become a key part of our site team.
About the role
This is a hands-on leadership role combining high-quality carpentry with the day-to-day coordination and ownership of the site.
You'll work closely with our directors and project team, taking responsibility for what's happening on site while the broader team supports procurement, documentation, programming and project administration.
You'll remain involved in the building work, particularly where good carpentry and attention to detail matter, but your responsibility will extend beyond your own tools.
You'll coordinate trades and the carpentry team, maintain quality, plan upcoming works and make sure the site is organised and ready for what's next.
The role would suit an experienced Foreman or Leading Hand who enjoys being hands-on, or a highly capable carpenter ready to take greater ownership of the whole site.
Key responsibilities
Take day-to-day ownership of the site and be Vormen's eyes and ears on the ground
Undertake and lead high-quality carpentry works
Coordinate subcontractors, carpenters and day-to-day site activities
Plan and prepare upcoming works so trades, materials and information are ready when required
Maintain a safe, organised and professional site
Monitor workmanship and quality throughout construction
Read and interpret architectural, structural and consultant documentation
Assist with set-out and key construction details
Identify issues, RFIs, material requirements and decisions early and communicate them to the project team
Coordinate site inspections and quality checkpoints
Maintain clear communication between the site and project team
Help drive the short-term programme and keep works moving
About you
We're looking for someone with strong practical construction knowledge who takes pride in both the work they produce and the way the overall site is run.
To be successful in the role, you'll have:
A carpentry trade qualification
Strong experience in custom or architectural residential construction
A high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
The ability to read and understand detailed construction documentation
Good practical construction knowledge and problem-solving ability
Confidence coordinating and communicating with subcontractors
Strong organisation and an ability to think ahead
A practical, calm and collaborative approach on site
Pride in maintaining an organised and well-run project
A willingness to take ownership and follow things through
Previous Foreman or Leading Hand experience would be highly regarded, but isn't essential for the right carpenter ready to step into greater responsibility.
Why join Vormen?
This is an opportunity to join a growing construction company at a point where you can genuinely become part of how we operate.
We offer:
Architecturally interesting residential projects
A hands-on role with genuine site ownership
A balance between carpentry and site leadership
Direct involvement with the directors and project team
Strong office support for procurement, documentation and project administration
A business focused on planning and good systems rather than constant firefighting
The opportunity to develop into greater site leadership as Vormen grows
A team that values craftsmanship, communication and taking responsibility
We're looking for someone who gets satisfaction not only from what they've built themselves, but from seeing the whole site move forward.
If you're an experienced Foreman, Leading Hand or Carpenter ready to step into a role with greater ownership and responsibility, we'd like to hear from you.
