Seeking an Academic Intervention Specialist & Learning Diversity Teacher

The Academic Intervention Specialist & Learning Diversity Teacher is a member of Academic Staff and plays a key role in supporting students to achieve their learning potential through inclusive, evidence-informed practice. Working closely with students, families, teachers and school leaders, the role focuses on literacy and numeracy intervention, Learning Diversity support, and the use of assessment data to inform student learning and progress.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month appointment commencing January 2027, with the possibility of ongoing employment. Based at our Plenty Campus, the role works primarily with students in Years 7 and 8 and includes a combination of intervention and Learning Diversity responsibilities, with flexibility to respond to the evolving needs of the School.

What you will do

The Academic Intervention Specialist & Learning Diversity Teacher is a key member of our academic community. Reporting to the Director of Evidence Informed Learning and Head of Learning Diversity, and working closely with classroom teachers, faculty leaders and families, you will deliver targeted literacy and numeracy intervention, support students requiring additional adjustments, and contribute to positive learning outcomes for a diverse range of learners.

You have the necessary experience, knowledge and skills to:

•  Deliver evidence-based literacy and numeracy intervention programs, using assessment data to identify learning needs, monitor growth and evaluate impact.
• Use student achievement data and professional judgement to inform intervention planning, track progress and recommend ongoing support, Learning Diversity referral, or reintegration into mainstream learning.
• Provide targeted small-group instruction that addresses learning gaps and supports measurable student growth.
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, faculty leaders and the Learning Diversity team to align intervention strategies with curriculum priorities and student needs.
• Support students requiring NCCD adjustments through consultation, implementation of adjustments, development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and ongoing progress monitoring.
• Build positive partnerships with students, families and external specialists to support learning, engagement and wellbeing.

Who you are 
You are a reflective and student-centred educator who understands the impact of targeted intervention and evidence-informed practice. You believe that every student can make meaningful progress when provided with the right support, and you are committed to working collaboratively to improve learning outcomes for diverse learners.

You bring:

• Relevant teaching qualifications, current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration, and a commitment to child safety and inclusive practice.
• Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs through intervention, differentiated teaching, Learning Diversity programs or inclusive education practices.
• Strong knowledge of literacy and/or numeracy intervention, with the ability to use assessment data to identify learning needs, monitor progress and evaluate growth.
• Experience developing and reviewing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), implementing reasonable adjustments, and supporting students requiring additional assistance.
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with students, families, staff and external professionals.
• The ability to work collaboratively, manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, and engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice.
