Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) is Victoria's consumer regulator. Our vision is a fair and competitive marketplace in Victoria. We:

About the Role

The Inspector will conduct a range compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV.

Also, the Inspector will carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as delegated under the Residential Tenancies Act.

Further the Inspector will perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education and participate in CAV campaign initiatives.

The Inspector role in the Central Area is based at Bendigo and will outreach to other locations across regional Victoria and into north west metropolitan Melbourne as required.

Key Accountabilities

• Participate in and contribute to aspects of an ongoing compliance program, including local planning and development of compliance activities and their implementation.
• Using standardised tools, carry out routine, straightforward and sometimes more complex inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair-Trading Act and the Residential Tenancies Act. This can include report preparation, drafting written correspondence, obtaining evidence for use in legal proceedings as directed by CAV, as well as issuing infringement notices.
• Under general direction, deliver business and consumer education sessions consistent with CAV program priorities and community needs.
• Undertake front line dispute resolution by using negotiation skills to address consumer concerns in line with CAV policy, as well as escalating complex matters where appropriate.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with area stakeholders including community agencies, local councils, businesses, and community groups.
• Be prepared to be appointed as an Inspector under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair-Trading Act and be delegated as an Inspector under the Residential Tenancies Act.
• Demonstrated commitment to the Victorian Public Sector values, including responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights, and the ability to apply these values in all aspects of your work.
• Perform other relevant duties as required, including working at remote locations or other office locations across Victoria, which may include overnight stays.

About You

• We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience from the following criteria: Demonstrated understanding of the principals of organisational values and behaviours.
• Experience in inspection operations including the planning, development and delivery of outreach activities.
• Capacity to apply CAV legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures in relation to compliance and enforcement activities.
• Demonstrated experience in the preparation of reports and the drafting of correspondence.
• Ability to develop and maintain productive relations with internal and external key stakeholders.
• Be prepared to be appointed as an Inspector under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair-Trading Act and be delegated as an Inspector under the Residential Tenancies Act.

This role is an ongoing position. This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.

You must be an Australian citizen, as this role requires a security clearance.
