Expression of Interest - Longwall Automation Engineer

GM3 is inviting expressions of interest from experienced mining professionals for potential roles at Tahmoor Mine following the proposed recommencement of operations. 

We are excited about the opportunity to support the next chapter of Tahmoor Mine and are looking for experienced people who would like to help build a safe, productive and sustainable operation. 

Successful candidates for these roles will be employed by GM3 and are expected to be based at Tahmoor Mine following completion of the proposed acquisition.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Reporting to the Longwall Superintendent, the Longwall Automation Engineer will provide technical leadership and support for the safe and effective execution of longwall automation activities at Tahmoor Mine. This role will focus on improving automation usage, equipment reliability, production performance and disciplined execution across longwall operations. 

This role is based at Tahmoor Mine, located in the Southern Highlands of NSW, approximately 80 kilometres south-west of Sydney and within easy commuting distance of Wollongong, the Macarthur region and surrounding communities. 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: 

• Lead and support the development, implementation and improvement of the Longwall Automation Roadmap. 

• Review production, automation and equipment performance data to identify improvement opportunities. 

• Analyse and optimise production activities, cutting sequences, automation usage and equipment reliability. 

• Coordinate automation implementation activities with longwall operations, maintenance and improvement teams. 

• Apply change management requirements and provide governance over automation change control processes. 

• Provide technical expertise to support safe, productive and reliable operation of longwall equipment and automation systems. 

• Support the development of automation standards, equipment life plans and technical documentation. 

• Coach and support longwall crews in automation functionality, usage and disciplined operational execution. 

• Promote safe work practices, proactive safety initiatives and timely close-out of safety, investigation and risk actions. 

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to deliver practical, sustainable technical improvements. 

ABOUT YOU 

You are a technically capable and safety-focused engineering professional with experience in underground coal mining, production execution and longwall automation. 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline. 

• Experience in production execution within an underground coal mining environment. 

• Demonstrated experience supporting longwall automation system implementation, optimisation or project work. 

• Strong understanding of longwall operations, automation performance, equipment reliability and production improvement. 

• Ability to communicate clearly, influence stakeholders and work effectively with production, maintenance and technical teams. 

• Sound planning, problem-solving and analytical capability, with a practical approach to technical recommendations.
