Role Description The Support Worker role is an on-site position based in Newcastle, NSW. The Support Worker will provide direct, person-centred support to neurodivergent clients in their homes and communities, assisting with daily living activities, skill development, and participation in social and educational settings. Responsibilities include implementing support plans, promoting independence and safety, monitoring well-being, and documenting progress and observations. The role involves building trusting relationships, advocating for client needs, collaborating with families and other professionals, and maintaining safeguarding and compliance standards. The Support Worker will also support clients in accessing community resources and services, while consistently applying neurodiversity-affirming principles in all interactions.
QualificationsExperience as a Support Worker or in a similar disability support role, with a focus on person-centred and neurodiversity-affirming practice.Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, relationship-building, and the ability to work effectively with individuals, families, and multidisciplinary teams.Knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices, including risk awareness, incident reporting, and maintaining safe, respectful environments.Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written, for client interaction, documentation, and collaboration with colleagues.Basic technical support skills relevant to the role, such as assisting clients with everyday technologies and using digital tools for record-keeping.Relevant qualifications or training in disability support, community services, allied health assistance, education support, or a related field.Understanding of neurodiversity and commitment to inclusive, rights-based approaches to disability support.Current Working With Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening (or equivalent), and first aid certification, or willingness to obtain these.
