Content Manager - Remote / Work from Home

As the national peak body for elder abuse, EAAA requires the development of a cohesive, national content ecosystem that strengthens EAAA’s voice, advances advocacy objectives and drives awareness, prevention and response to elder abuse. 

The position ensures that EAAA’s content: 

• Influences public discourse and policy
• Builds capability across sectors and professions
• Reaches and empowers older people, families, carers, allies and community
• Supports national alignment with the National Plan to End the Abuse and Mistreatment of Older People 2026 – 2036. 

The role has organisation-wide responsibility for content leadership, overseeing messaging consistency, editorial governance, and integrated communications across all major channels and platforms, including Compass, SaferSeniors, events, and media engagement. The role is accountable for both the development and application of the work. In collaboration with the Manager, External Affairs & Advocacy, the Content Manager will actively contribute to media strategy, policy communications and executive communications outputs. 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

• Lead the development and implementation of EAAA’s national content strategy
• Align content with organisational strategy, advocacy priorities and national reform agendas
• Identify and lead proactive content agendas to influence public, media and policy discourse 

Content Governance 

• Establish and oversee content governance frameworks, including:
  • Editorial standards
  • Style guides 
  • Approval processes and risk management protocols
• Ensure consistency, quality and alignment of content across all programs and outputs
• Provide expert editorial oversight on high-profile or high-risk communications 

Multi-Channel Content Ecosystem Leadership 

• Oversee content strategy, integration and output across all major EAAA platforms:
  • Compass – national consumer information and awareness platform

• • Safer Seniors – workforce capability and training resource
  • Lunch & Learn – national webinar and learning series
  • Conferences and events – including the bi-annual Australian Elder Abuse Conference
  • Media and public communications – media releases, commentary, campaigns
  • Policy and advocacy outputs – position statements, submissions, reports

• Responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring alignment across channels
  • Driving content integration and amplification
  • Leading the atomisation and repurposing of core content into diverse formats 

Content Development 

• Develop content across all EAAA platforms.

Audience Strategy and Impact 

• Lead development of audience segmentation and content approaches across:
  • Older people
  • Families and carers
  • Allies, bystanders and community members
  • Frontline professionals (legal, health, financial, social services) 

• Ensure content is:
  • Accessible and inclusive
  • Trauma-informed and culturally safe
  • Fit-for-purpose across literacy levels and communication formats

• Oversee strategies to increase reach, engagement and behavioural impact 

Media, Advocacy and Thought Leadership 

• Provide input to EAAA’s content-driven advocacy and media strategy
• Assist in shaping key messaging for national campaigns and policy engagement
• Provide relevant input and thought leadership to:
  • Media releases and opinion pieces
  • Spokesperson briefs and talking points
  • Campaign narratives and key messages 

• Position EAAA as a trusted national voice on elder abuse and a respected peak body. 

Leadership and Team Management 

• Lead and mentor staff, contractors and contributors involved in content generation
• Build internal capability in writing, messaging and content development
• Manage workflows, priorities, and delivery across competing organisational demands
• Oversee external suppliers (e.g. experts, designers, content producers). 

Stakeholder and Sector Engagement 

• Improve and leverage existing content to build strategic relationships with:
  • EAAA members
  • Government agencies
  • Peak bodies and partners
  • Subject matter experts and lived experience contributors

• Lead co-design approaches to content development where appropriate
• Ensure content reflects sector priorities, evidence and lived realities 

Performance, Insights and Continuous Improvement 

• Establish and oversee content performance frameworks and KPIs
• Analyse audience engagement, reach and impact across platforms
• Use insights and data to shape continuous improvement and innovation
• Report to executive and board on communications effectiveness. 

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

• Extensive experience (7–10+ years) in senior content strategy and development roles
• Exceptional writing, editorial and storytelling capability across print, digital and spoken formats
• Proven ability to shape strategic narratives and messaging in complex policy environments
• Demonstrated leadership experience including staff, contractors or cross-functional teams
• Deep understanding of audience-centred communication and content strategy
• Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe and inclusive practice 

Desirable:

• Experience in elder abuse, ageing, family violence, legal assistance, health or social policy sectors
• Experience working in a national peak body, advocacy or policy context.
