About the role
Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron | Full-time | Blairgowrie, Mornington Peninsula
Lead sailing programs. Develop people. Build capability.Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is looking for an experienced sailing or sporting professional to lead our Sail Training and coaching programs and help develop the people who deliver them.
This is a significant role within our Sailing Department, with responsibility for program leadership, instructor and coach development, workforce planning, volunteer training and continuous improvement.
About the roleReporting to the Head of Sailing, you will lead the planning, delivery and improvement of BYS's Learn to Sail, Discover Sailing Centre and coaching programs.
You'll make sure programs are well planned, appropriately staffed and delivered to a high standard, while identifying opportunities to improve the participant experience and strengthen pathways into ongoing sailing.
You'll also lead the day-to-day management and development of our sailing instructors and coaches, including workforce planning, recruitment and onboarding, mentoring, feedback and professional development.
A further focus will be building capability across our volunteer workforce, including coordinating practical training and workshops and supporting race management training, resources and procedures.
What you'll bringWe're looking for someone who combines strong sailing knowledge with program leadership and people development skills.
You will have:
Experience planning, managing and delivering sailing, training or sporting programs.
Strong knowledge and understanding of sailing and sailing activities.
Experience leading, developing or mentoring instructors, coaches, trainers or delivery staff.
The ability to plan workforce requirements and coordinate a team effectively.
Strong program development and continuous improvement skills.
Experience developing or delivering training, workshops or learning programs.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership of your responsibilities.
A commitment to providing a high-quality experience for participants, members, staff and volunteers.
Experience in race management, volunteer development, sailing coaching or working within a sailing club or member-based sporting organisation would be highly regarded.
Australian Sailing qualifications, powerboat or safety boat qualifications, and relevant training, education or sport management qualifications are also desirable.

The practical stuffFull-time position
Location: Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron
Weekend and public holiday work is required.
Hours vary seasonally to meet operational requirements.
The role includes on-water and outdoor work.
Working with Children Check (Employee) and current first aid qualification required.
