About the role
Sports Development Officer/Programs Coordinator is a key role within Rowing NSW, combining program coordination with sports development officer functions to grow and support the sport across the state.
This is a short-term immediate cover of a full-time position and requires the coordinator to work flexibly within the role, particularly around competition times as tasks and priorities will vary depending on the season. The role supports membership services; coordinates membership processes; promotes rowing and skills development and oversees the participation of young people and other identified groups in the sport; assists with coaching, training and instructing rowers, and recruiting and supervising coaching staff and volunteers; assists in the design, planning and delivery of programs, competitions and events that develop the sport in NSW; officiates at and directs regatta and event activities in liaison with other officials; and provides logistical and administrative support to various teams within Rowing NSW.
Key Responsibilities1. Membership Services
• Handle membership enquiries and FAQs, with an emphasis on moving to a self-service model.
• Coordinate the annual membership and affiliation process, including maintaining the membership database.
2. Sports Development
• Promote rowing and skills development across NSW and oversee the participation of young people and other special groups in the sport.
• Assist with the establishment of Development academies, flatwater, coastal/beach and also in partnership with the regional academies of sport
• Assist in the development of Coaches & training by analysing performance and developing abilities and attending practice sessions where required.
• Support GM Business development on the program to support coaches, officials and volunteers to build club and program capability.
• Arrange and coordinate entries into regattas for the state team.
• Support Officiating at regattas in application of rules and regulations, liaising with other officials as required.
• Coordinate and direct on-water rowing activities and analyse race development progress to support athlete development.
• May be seconded to a school or club in a coaching capacity, in addition to primary responsibilities, to support rowing participation and development.
3. Support for Business Development
• Provide logistical and administrative support to the Business Development team.
• Assist in the delivery of development and participation strategies, including athlete development programs / webinars etc.
• Management of the accreditation and education of coaches and officials through RNSW education programs including online webinars and the NCAS
• Support the delivery of participation activities.
4. Event Support
• Assist with the delivery of both on and off water event activities inlcuding
o Provide event labor, including setup, pack-up, and on-ground support.
o Serving as Regatta Secretary, managing regatta results and point scores.
o Overseeing regatta timing and regatta draws.
5. Boat and Equipment Maintenance
• Refuel, clean, and maintain boats.
• Perform minor repairs and upkeep of equipment.
• Assist with boat and equipment bookings and maintenance of records.
6. State Team Management
• Manage the junior pathway, senior, and masters state teams.
• Coordinate team selections.
• Organise and distribute team uniforms.
• Coordination of all off-water state team events.
· A degree in Sports Management or equivalent & Teaching (secondary)
· Proven experience in a similar role within a sporting organisation or event management context.
· Strong organisational and time-management skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
· Proficiency in using relevant software and technology tools.
· Rowing experience in both a school and a high-performance context is highly desirable
· Relevant coaching, officiating and/or Sports Development Officer registration or licensing, consistent with industry requirements for this occupation e.g. level 3 – Performance coaching accreditation.
· Basic knowledge of boat and equipment maintenance.
· A valid driver’s licence
· Experience Towing boat trailers
· Boat license
· Surf lifesaving Bronze Medallion/IRB ticket or equivalent
· First Aid certification.
· Possession of a Working With Children’s Check (or equivalent).

Working Conditions
The role will require working outside standard office hours, including weekends and public holidays, especially during regatta events.
The position involves both office-based and on-site work at various regatta locations.The role may also require secondment to a school or club in a coaching capacity, in addition to primary responsibilities.
