About the role
Waddell Landscape Design is an award-winning, high-end luxury residential brand. For the past 15 years, we have proudly guided our clients through the landscape design and construction process. We have grown into a National brand with bases in Melbourne, Geelong and the Gold Coast.
We are now looking for an experienced, hands-on Construction Manager to take ownership of our Melbourne construction projects and drive them through to successful and profitable completion.
This role is ideal for someone who can oversee multiple residential projects at different stages, make practical decisions, lead teams, communicate confidently with clients and ensure projects are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget.
This is not a desk-only administration role. You will split your time between the office and active construction sites, taking direct responsibility for project delivery. Your primary focus will be managing projects from signed contract and deposit through to material procurement, scheduling, construction, quality control and final handover, while overseeing our team of in-house landscapers and apprentices.
Take ownership of the live construction pipeline from signed contract through to completion
Develop, manage and continually update construction schedules across multiple projects
Coordinate subcontractors, installers, suppliers and internal site teams
Work closely with the administration team on contracts, permits, engineering and project documentation
Ensure materials, labour and site requirements are organised and confirmed ahead of project commencement
Keep accurate project statuses, actions, responsibilities and deadlines
Maintain proactive and professional communication with clients throughout the construction process
Regularly attend active sites to oversee workmanship, safety, quality and progress
Troubleshoot construction issues and implement practical solutions quickly
Manage project variations and ensure additional works are properly documented and approved
Minimum five years' experience in residential construction, site supervision, project management or construction operations
Proven ability to manage multiple residential projects simultaneously
Strong understanding of residential construction methods, sequencing and site management
Experience recruiting, leading and managing in-house teams, including qualified landscapers and apprentices
Practical experience across areas such as paving, concreting, brick/block work, pergolas, roofing, decking, renovations, drainage, softscaping, extensions, sheds, pools, landscaping or similar construction
Comfortable interpreting construction plans, engineering drawings and permit documentation
Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with clients, trades, suppliers and office staff
Highly organised, solutions-focused and able to remain calm under pressure
Strong sense of urgency, ownership and personal accountability
Current Australian driver's licence
