Tauondi Aboriginal College is seeking a motivated and community-focused Training and Employment Support Service Officer to support Aboriginal people to prepare for, access and sustain education, training and employment opportunities.

Tauondi Aboriginal College is an independent, Aboriginal community-controlled Registered Training Organisation established in 1973. For more than 50 years, Tauondi has supported Aboriginal people through education, training, learner support, employment pathways and community-based programs. About the role

The Training and Employment Support Service Officer plays an important role in supporting Aboriginal adults from pre-training and employment preparation through to vocational training, employment placement and ongoing post-placement support.

The role combines case management, participant support, employment pathways, workshop facilitation, employer engagement and project coordination.

You will work directly with students and participants to identify their individual needs, develop support plans, address barriers to participation and strengthen their readiness for education, training and employment. You will also coordinate and deliver non-accredited programs in areas such as career development, pre-employment preparation, digital literacy and foundation skills. 

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• provide individualised case management and support to students and participants;
• identify barriers to participation and connect participants with relevant internal and external support services;
• provide learning support, including literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assistance to strengthen employability and job readiness;
• coordinate work experience and work placement opportunities;
• maintain regular contact with employers to support successful placements and enable early intervention where required;
• develop, coordinate and deliver non-accredited workshops for Aboriginal participants;
• facilitate workshops in areas such as pre-employment, career development, job readiness and foundation skills;
• contribute to training and employment-related projects and ensure agreed milestones and outcomes are achieved;
• build and maintain relationships with employers, employment service providers, RTOs, government agencies and community organisations;
• promote training and employment opportunities and support strong participant engagement;
• maintain accurate case notes and participant records; and
• contribute to the development and maintenance of an Aboriginal job seeker database. 

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly with people and can build strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal participants, employers, community organisations and other stakeholders.

You will bring strong communication, organisation and facilitation skills, together with an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols, practices and communities.

Ideally, you will have:

• at least two years' experience providing support to individuals, preferably Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
• experience developing, facilitating or delivering pre-employment or job-readiness programs;
• experience supporting students, job seekers or participants through education, training or employment pathways;
• experience working appropriately with personal and confidential information;
• strong presentation and group facilitation skills;
• sound case management and case noting skills; and
• the ability to work effectively with a range of community, government, training and employment stakeholders. 

Experience within the Vocational Education and Training sector will be highly regarded.

Essential requirements

Applicants will need:

• Certificate IV in Career Development, Certificate IV in Employment Services, or equivalent work experience
• current DHS National Criminal History Record Check, or willingness to obtain one
• Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care Certificate, or willingness to obtain one
• current driver's licence. 

Other relevant tertiary qualifications will also be considered.
