About the role

Remington Steel is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis at our facility in Derrimut, VIC. This is a pivotal role within our procurement and operations function, where you will be responsible for analysing project specifications, calculating material costs, and providing accurate quotations that drive our competitive positioning in the steel and distribution sector. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in supporting our sales team, ensuring profitability, and maintaining strong relationships with our clients through precision and reliability in all estimating activities.

What you'll be doing

1. Analysing project drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to determine material requirements and project scope

2. Calculating material costs, and overhead allocations to produce accurate and competitive quotations

3. Liaising with suppliers and internal teams to source pricing information and confirm material availability

4. Preparing detailed estimates and proposals for presentation to clients, including breakdowns of costs and timelines

5. Reviewing and validating estimates against actual project outcomes to improve future accuracy and forecasting

6. Maintaining comprehensive records of estimates, pricing databases, and historical project data

7. Collaborating with the sales, production, and logistics teams to ensure feasibility and profitability of quoted projects

8. Identifying opportunities to optimise costs, streamline processes, and enhance value propositions for clients

What we're looking for

1. Proven experience as an Estimator within the steel distribution or construction industries (minimum 3-5 years)

2. Strong knowledge of steel products, specifications, and manufacturing processes

3. Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel for cost modelling and analysis

4. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail

5. Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications accurately

6. Strong communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with suppliers, clients, and internal stakeholders

7. Sound understanding of supply chain logistics, freight costs, and inventory management principles

8. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines

9. Knowledge of relevant industry standards and compliance requirements

10. Preferred: Experience with procurement systems and inventory management software

11. Preferred: Familiarity with costing methodologies and project management principles
