Assistant Accountant / Graduate Accountant

About the role

An Assistant Accountant or Accountant position reporting directly to the Head of Finance. You will gain exposure to a broad range of accounting activities across a growing, multi-entity business. The scope and level of responsibility will be tailored to the successful candidate's experience and will develop as their capability grows. This is not a narrowly focused accounts payable or transactional position. You will be involved in financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance, budgeting, payroll-related reporting, analysis and operational finance. You will work closely with an experienced Head of Finance who enjoys developing capable people and providing hands-on training.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting with monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting

• Preparing balance sheet, bank and general ledger reconciliations

• Supporting the preparation of BAS, PAYGW and PAYGI obligations

• Preparing and reconciling accounts payable and supplier payments

• Generating customer invoices and assisting with debtor management

• Managing employee credit card reconciliations, receipts and spending reports

• Maintaining fixed asset registers

• Maintaining accurate financial records across multiple entities in Xero

• Completing stock reconciliations and investigating stocktake variances

• Supporting payroll tax compliance

About you

• A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline

• Eligibility to commence, or current progress towards, a CA or CPA qualification

• Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to accuracy

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

• Experience using Xero

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to organise competing priorities and meet deadlines

• Sound judgement when handling confidential or sensitive information

• Full Australian working rights
