This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to develop specialist research expertise while contributing to evidence-based improvements in critical care. You'll work collaboratively with the Professor of Critical Care Nursing and the multidisciplinary ICU team to deliver high-quality, ethically sound research that makes a real difference to patient care.
In This Role, You'll
Support nurse-led research projects from concept through to publication.Assist with literature reviews, ethics submissions, and research protocols.Coordinate data collection, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.Promote evidence-based practice and research participation across the ICU.Provide clinical leadership while contributing to education and professional development within the team.
About You
We're looking for an experienced Intensive Care Registered Nurse who combines strong clinical expertise with curiosity, attention to detail, and a passion for improving patient outcomes through research.
You'll Bring
Strong critical thinking, clinical leadership, and communication skills.An interest in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.Experience with clinical systems such as iEMR or MetaVision (highly regarded).A postgraduate qualification—or current enrolment—in a relevant field is highly desirable.

About Us
The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is regarded as one of the leading adult tertiary specialist facilities in Australia. With 28 funded beds (26 ICU beds and 2 HDU beds) on average and over 2300 annual admissions, the ICU has the highest surgical throughput of any hospital in Australia and New Zealand. All major adult specialities are provided except for burns and obstetrics.
The motivated multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists and speech pathologists work together to deliver a high standard of holistic patient-centred care. University affiliation, active training programs and internationally recognised medical and nursing research contribute to advancement in intensive care practices and continuing staff development. The ICU endorses the Transition to Support Program– Adult Intensive Care which is a requirement for all new ICU employees without a post graduate qualification in Critical Care. The unit offers a culture of education, learning and support within the multi-disciplinary team. Combining innovative clinical practice and a supportive learning environment encourages and ensures that we promote excellence in patient and family care.
