Role of  Western Sydney Organiser  

This role is responsible for growing the strategic capacity of our movement in Western Sydney. They will focus on supporting a thriving local team in the area to lead strategic actions and training programs that will help achieve our movement’s goals as set out in our movement DNA. 

Tomorrow Movement’s focus in Western Sydney will be building community power around the emerging issue of data centre development. We will do this using momentum organising, by communicating the urgency of the crisis and activating the public. Working with our staff and volunteer teams across the Stronger Communities Network, the Organiser will support hundreds of young people to grow a powerful team running campaigns in Western Sydney. 

The Organiser will always have an eye to movement DNA and will support implementation of our organising culture, structure, strategy and story. 

Primary Responsibilities 

• Support the growth and leadership of a local team in Western Sydney, to build a movement big and diverse enough to win our demands.
• Supporting the local team to run effective campaigns and work together effectively. 
• Train new leaders in Western Sydney in community organising.
• Weave Tomorrow Movement’s DNA into the work of the local team, and link local team participants into national moments (e.g. the whole-movement gathering, Nov 2026). 
• Monitor and intervene on movement culture, ensuring we live up to our movement values.

Secondary responsibilities 

• Assist in responding to emergent campaign opportunities 
• Work with the rest of the Tomorrow Movement staff and volunteer teams on longer term campaign strategy and planning 
• Participate in Network Council meetings
• Support with the achievement of small donor fundraising in Western Sydney. 

Success metrics

• 25+ leaders in the Western Sydney are trained up and running campaigns throughout 2027.
• 10 local leaders are supported to attend the whole-movement gathering in November and be immersed in Tomorrow Movement DNA. 
• The local team in Western Sydney is growing and has momentum. 

Attributes and experience that will help you perform this role 

You will be well suited to this role if you:

• Are committed to Tomorrow Movement’s goal of building a future where everyone is connected, safe and cared for. 
• Are familiar with momentum organising 
• Are comfortable managing large projects
• Understand that you are one of a few staff members in a volunteer led movement and are committed to organising yourself out of a job
• Have previous experience as a community organiser or coach, particularly in supporting leadership development
• Have previous experience designing and running campaigns or actions
• Are a strong communicator (written and verbal)
• Are committed to your own leadership development and excited to give and receive constructive feedback
• Enjoy creative problem solving and working in teams
• Understand Western Sydney - live there, have lived there or are deeply connected to place.
