Estimator | Steel Processing & Profiling

Estimate for one of the most advanced pipe profiling operations in the country.

Waypoint is partnering with Surepipe to appoint an Estimator supporting the growth of their steel pipe processing and profiling capability.

Surepipe is a privately owned steel pipe supply and processing business working exclusively in carbon steel, servicing the mining, drilling and minerals, structural, pressure vessel and general industrial markets across Australia and the Pacific.

Their point of difference is the profiling. The equipment is European-built and among the most capable of its type in the country, the same class of machine used to profile structural pipework for major stadium projects overseas. It allows Surepipe to add real value to a length of pipe before it reaches a customer's workshop, delivering ready-to-weld product and a genuine efficiency gain for fabricators.

That capability is now moving out of its establishment phase into a proper growth phase, and this role exists to support it.

The role
You'll prepare accurate estimates from customer drawings and specifications, with enough detail that the customer service team can run with them. Speed matters here, and turning enquiries around the same or next business day is a real competitive advantage.

Alongside the estimating, you'll check and interpret customer drawings, handle minor modifications and weld preparation detail, and translate concept sketches into CAD models for research and development work.

You'll also manage scheduling across the processing function, balancing customer expectations against machine capacity, and provide technical support to the internal sales team and the Business Development Manager on tenders.

Who will you be working with?
You'll report to the manager who leads the processing function, who has a fabrication and engineering background.
You'll sit alongside a minerals and resources team leader, internal sales team members, Business Development Manager(s), the processing operators on the floor and the operations team.

Across the business the tenure speaks for itself, with staff at 15, 18, 20 and 25 years of service. It's a genuinely flat structure with an open door to the CEO. Everyone wears multiple hats, and there's no expectation that any role is above helping out on the floor when the machine needs support.

What Surepipe is looking for

• Some prior estimating experience. You should be able to take a set of drawings and produce an estimate with limited guidance
• Working knowledge of CAD. Surepipe currently uses Fusion 360 and ProCAM
• A TAFE diploma or similar two-year qualification in engineering or drafting. Degree-qualified candidates are welcome but it's not required
• An understanding of Australian Standards for steel is an advantage, though it can be taught
• Genuinely detail-oriented, and disciplined enough to check rather than assume
• Outgoing, communicative and collaborative. This role sits in the middle of the business and you'll be working closely with the team every day.
• Strong written and spoken English

Backgrounds of interest include steel processing and distribution, laser cutting and profiling, structural steel fabrication, and pipe or tube supply. Candidates still completing study will be considered.

Location and working arrangements
Fully site based in Brendale, and you'll spend time in the workshop and on the machine to stay familiar with the capability.
