Head Chef

Cactus Jack’s Gumdale is looking for an experienced and motivated Head Chef to lead our busy kitchen team.

We are a high-volume, family-friendly restaurant with a strong local following. Since opening our Gumdale location, the business has continued to grow, and we are looking for a Head Chef who can take ownership of the kitchen and help us maintain consistently high standards.

This role would suit someone who is not only a strong chef, but also a confident and supportive leader. You will need to remain organised under pressure, communicate clearly and create a positive working environment for the entire kitchen team.

• Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the kitchen

• Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion control

• Manage kitchen staffing, training, performance and team development

• Prepare and oversee kitchen rosters

• Monitor food costs, wages, ordering and stock control

• Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise waste

• Ensure meals are prepared accurately and within expected service times

• Maintain excellent food safety, cleanliness and workplace safety standards

• Work closely with the owners and restaurant management team

• Help develop systems that improve kitchen efficiency and consistency

• Lead by example and contribute positively during busy services

• Previous experience as a Head Chef, Kitchen Manager or experienced Sous Chef ready to step up

• Strong leadership and people-management skills

• Experience working in a busy, high-volume restaurant

• Excellent organisation and time-management skills

• A calm and professional approach under pressure

• A strong understanding of food costs, ordering, stock control and wage management

• Sound knowledge of food safety and workplace health and safety requirements

• Reliability, accountability and a genuine commitment to the role

• The ability to train, support and motivate chefs, cooks and kitchen hands

• Availability to work evenings and weekends as required

• Relevant commercial cookery qualifications
