Chinchilla is a town and a locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. The town was established in 1877. Known for its quirky and fun-filled biennial Melon Festival, Chinchilla is a vibrant country town in the heart of the Western Downs. But don’t be fooled by this small town’s size, it belies its population with the quantity of produce grown in the region. In fact, Chinchilla produces 25% of Australia’s watermelons!
